Position Description
The incumbent needs to ensure that the whole team job are carried on smoothly and effectively. He/She will be responsible for managing and being a mentor in the team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· The Director of Research will work under the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; to take overall management of the RIGS Office, to coordinate all the daily work of the RIGS Office;
· Responsible for implementation of the university's work plan for scientific research, and annual departmental work plan;
· Responsible for formulation and implementation of policies and regulations for scientific research and ethics of research for the university;
· Responsible for composing and managing the university's research management team;
· Responsible for management of research platforms such as key subjects, key laboratories and engineering centers, together with academic leadership of the university;
· Responsible for organizing, applying and managing various research funding at all levels;
· Responsible for verification, statistics and reporting of research achievements of the university and application for grants;
· Cooperate with the Finance Department to manage the budget and use of scientific research funds;
· Responsible for the recommendation of academic experts and daily management of all kinds of researchers’ databases;
· Responsible for the organization and implementation of university-wide academic events and activities to popularize scientific knowledge;
· Responsible for coordinating the daily work of the University’s Academic Committee;
· Complete other tasks assigned by university management.
Required Job Specifications:
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and in Chinese;
· More than 10 years of university work experience, more than 3 years of research project application and management experience;
· Familiar with scientific research award/talent application system and related policies, with excellent ability to grasp and understand policies;
· Have some government (national ministries and national projects) or academic expert resources;
· Good at coordination, strong ability to address challenges and solve critical problems; good at thinking, analysis and planning; excellent leadership and teamwork skills.
Required Job Competencies
· Advanced language ability in Chinese and English (both speaking and writing); able to work in an English-speaking environment;
· Strong sense of responsibility and initiative, and good managerial and organizational skills;
· Good interpersonal and communication skills to work in an international, cross-cultural work environment;
· Ability to lead a team to work on multiple tasks under pressure.
